Students are given a thorough grounding (theoretical and practical) in operations research, scientific computing, statistics and aid to decision-making as well as a good mastery of computing tools (software engineering, data bases and computer graphics).
MME prepares students for work in :

Large companies using scientific computing or techniques of operations research and numerical simulation and CAD (e.g. automobile, EDF, aeronautics)

Companies using mathematical tools, (approximation, optimisation) situational analysis, (statistics) aid to decision-making and scientific computing. These include banks, insurance companies, the pharmaceutical industry and so on.

Computer service companies

Research and development (Meteorology, Telecommunications, National Space Agency (CNES), Institut Pasteur, Universities, CNRS.
There are four main areas of study within the department of MME :
Applied Mathematics : geometry and analysis, differential and integral calculus, topology, probability, statistics, operations research, optimisation and numerical analysis.
Engineering Sciences : mechanics, signal processing, modelling of physical systems, image processing and computer graphics. These are linked to student projects
Computer Science : complete mastery of concepts, methods and tools : algorithms, numerical programming, object oriented software engineering, data bases.
Humanities : (expression, languages, management) as in the other departments.
In third year, a choice of modules allows students to specialise in financial mathematics, meteorology (modelling of complex mechanical processes), organisation of production systems (operations research) or bio-informatics.
Three individual or group projects (one during each year of study) give students the opportunity of putting theory into practice. Projects can frequently be linked with the work of another CUST department.
